Basket of guavas with four halves showing red flesh

You can make a very delicious Cuban dessert named casquitos de guayaba if you have two simple ingredients: guava and sugar. You just need to follow these steps:

  1. Peel two pounds of red, rinsed and trimmed guava.
  2. Slice in half all the guavas and scoop out all the pulp and seeds.
  3. Put all the guavas shells in a pot with enough water to cover it.
  4. Add two cups of sugar.
  5. Simmer over medium-low heat until the shells are tender in a perfect soft shape.
  6. Simmer until the liquid has the consistency of a light syrup.
  7. Cool down at room temperature and refrigerate after that.
  8. Serve cold with cream cheese and crakers or just alone.
