As defined by the former US President Barack Obama, Canada is one of the most impressive countries in the world. Becoming a Canadian citizen is a privilege. Canada is known amongst the globe as a strong and free country where multiculturalism is a fundamental characteristic of the Canadian identity.

Coming to Canada was a dream come true because coming from a family whose roots began in the small town of Duverge, a town located in the southern part of the Dominican Republic, my parents did not have the ability to attend high school due to financial hardship, however, their efforts in raising a family with high values paid off, here I am today amongst you all becoming a citizen of this great nation.

As Canada’s 7th Prime Minister, Sir Wilfrid Laurier once said: ”I would build a nation great among the nations that of the world”. As a new Canadian citizen I have a responsibility to keep working towards maintaining Mr. Laurier vision. I will contribute to the betterment of Canada by taking care of my family, studying, working, respecting the laws, helping community members, respecting the rights of individuals and living in harmony. As a result becoming a Canadian citizen is a huge achievement and a great honour.
