English

The colorful words

English has always been extremely important because in my opinion, this is one of the most important tools in a career and everyday life. Being able to fluently speak or understand English, you open an enormous number of doors. You can communicate with people from all around the world, you can get a better job if you have it as an additional qualification and you are able to explain yourself and be understood. Personally, studying English has always been one of my primary goals.

First of all, to comprehend people from all around the world is extremely important in multicultural countries like Canada. Albeit, statistics say that English is the third language in the world, behind Mandarin and Spanish, consider it language number one. I am convinced, no matter where you are in the world, at least one person around you will be able to understand and answer your question in English. To prove this, we only need to check the percentage of English speakers by country on the world map. The countries with the lowest rate have the average between 0 and 20%. There are no countries with a total average of 0! I would say that nowadays English is truly Lingua-Franca.

Secondly, being employed in a non-English speaking country, and having English as an additional qualification on your resume, may land a better job for you. Just imagine yourself as an employer choosing between two candidates. Of course, you will pick the person that is capable of having a discussion with your English-speaking partners or reading and understanding some instructions written in English. Overall, there are always much more opportunities for a career.

Moreover, being understood makes you feel confident and able to share your opinion. For instance, a couple of days ago, on one of the social media sites I found a post about a hot button issue. I was able to take part in that contentious discussion and felt the need to share my opinions. At some point, I figured out that I was having a discussion with people from several different countries. I found it amazing that people from different parts of the world can explain their point of view and just share their own opinion in a unified language.

To conclude, I would say that English is the universal tool in our day-by-day life. Newcomers to Canada will have a better life, a better job, and an easier assimilation into the Canadian society by studying English in a program like our LINC Home Study. Language is a treasure. Learn English, enjoy it and use it. Understand and be understood!
