Homeland

Kosovo Flag Against City Blurred Background At Sunrise Backlight

There are numerous events and customs that I miss about my homeland, Kosovo. One of the events that I miss is celebrating the Independence Day with my family and friends. Every year, on February 17th, the government organizes a festival at the city center, where children and famous artists perform. This festival begins around 9 am and it lasts until after midnight. People go and leave at different times, typically they look at the event’s plan and see who is performing. This festival is free and although its typically cold in February, everyone is having the time of their lives, dancing and celebrating the long-wanted Independence Day. My husband and I used to host a dinner party, where we would invite our family and friends. We would go to the festival in the morning because the little children performed at that time, and all three of my children would perform and I do really miss seeing them on stage. After the dinner party, we would go and watch the fireworks show, and it was magnificent to look around and see so many smiling faces, who were making memories to last a lifetime.
