Bios

My name is Maira. I was born in Karachi, Pakistan. Karachi is a beautiful city with great attractions and amazing street food. The people are very welcoming and happy. I spent twenty years of my life in that city. I have two siblings, a brother and a sister and I’m the oldest one. My brother is a very caring and loving person, he is my best friend and my little sister is very attached to me because my mother is a workingwoman. My father is retired and does not work anymore.

My everyday activities included going to school, watching TV, reading books and stories and visiting my grandparents. As a child my life was quite perfect. I was a very shy person when I was at school, but I always was an outstanding student. I love to play badminton and I have also won a few championships at the school level. When I am not playing sports, I love to watch cricket with my husband.  I enjoyed my time at school where I have many friends. I believe that friendship is the most important aspect in my life. I appreciate friendship and people who surrounded me. I like to communicate with people. I like to deal with challenging tasks, which I think is a strong point of mine. I love music and movies; my favourite movie is Titanic - I think it’s the best movie ever.

Growing up was a lot of fun because it is always summer in my home city. I love to travel and my famous trip was when our whole family went to Murray Hills, which is a beautiful city in the north of Pakistan. I bought a cheap camera and captured beautiful moments of my life. I enjoyed a lot with my cousins and family. I bought a lot of clothes and traditional things. I think this was the best trip ever.

After I finished school, I met my husband at a wedding and I fell in love with him. He quickly proposed and we both got married in August 2012. After our marriage it was very hard because my husband applied for my Canadian immigration and my time alone was hard as I missed him every day. I moved to Canada in 2015 and started a new life in Mississauga, Ontario.  I have two children:  a son and a daughter. My son is four years old, his name is Youssef and my daughter is eight months old now and her name is Alyza. My current life is quite busy with kids and sometimes I have no time for myself although it’s very important to give time for yourself. When we have time now I like to take the kids to the park and also go shopping. Our favorite mall is Erin Mills Town Center. We also love to go and try new food, but Pakistani food is still my most favourite. Life in Canada can be challenging at times. My next focus is to learn English, so I can get my driver’s license and also get a job soon.
