Actors at the Anne of Green Gables museum in Cavendish, Prince Edward Island

My name is Anne and I am from South Korea. Actually this name is not my original Korean name, but it is very special name given to me when I was young. I liked to watch a popular animation in Korea which was called Anne of Green Gables. The main character Anne was very skinny and she had a lot of freckles and red hair. At that time, my face and body were also very similar to hers. I had many freckles and I was very skinny, so my friends called me Anne, but I didn’t hate them because I really liked her character and her name. Although she was not very beautiful, she was a bright and positive girl. When I grew up and came to Canada, I was surprised to find out that Lucy M. Montgomery was a famous Canadian author and the story took place on PEI, so I decided to keep my nickname.

It’s interesting that my life story has another Canadian connection. In 2012, after I finished middle school, because of my father’s business, our family moved to China. When I graduated from university, I met my husband there and we travelled a lot to be together. For a few years we used to meet in China, South Korea and in Canada until I decided to move here. First we lived in a small town in Alberta with a population of about a thousand. We got married and then my husband found a new job in Barrie, Ontario. We moved to Barrie in wintertime and that year there was a lot of snow. I could not drive so it was a very hard time for me. However, as soon as the winter was over, I immediately started learning to drive a car. Now, I’m a good driver; I have a job and my life has become more convenient. The city of Barrie is very beautiful in summer and I love my new name and my new hometown.
