COVID-19

Social distancing. Small group of people enjoying conversation at picnic with social distance in sum

Summer vacation is usually a happy time for students and young children in Canada. To have a lengthy break from school is really cool for them!

At this time, children usually enjoy going away on vacation or going to different places of interest with their families. It is the best time of the year for them as it gives them a chance to relax and explore new things.

But, sadly, not this summer. Covid-19 has changed our lives. My grandchildren are not able to go to places they love going to in summer because of Covid-19. They cannot visit their friends or invite them to their home. They can’t play with other kids the way they used to. They don’t go to their dance classes or to swimming pools, and soccer club anymore. All day they are with the family, but they are lucky because at least they have each other to play with.

Their parents are trying to do the best they can to keep them busy and happy. They ride bicycles, play ball games, paint and colour. Sometimes we have a picnic in the backyard. As for me, I'm having a great time with my grandkids and in taking care of my flowers in the garden.

Our family is happy to be living close to a beautiful forest, safe at home, and far away from the crowd of people. When we want some company, we are lucky that we can visit neighbours, who are further away, but not very far. These days we make sure we follow social distancing rules and stay outdoors when we visit them.

I really hope and pray that the next summer is a Covid free summer and we enjoy it we used to.
