Seasonal

Paddy cultivation during rainy season in Nepal

Summer is the best-known season for holiday, vacation and outdoor activities in Canada. Most of the people completely take advantage of that beautiful season. Flowers blossoms in gardens, birds fly in the sky and chirp, ducks swim in lakes and rivers, and rabbits run here and there. Schools are closed; parks are fully packed with people. It is the best time to feel and enjoy Mother Nature. I feel joy everywhere.

I would like to spend most of the time doing outdoor activities, such as gardening, planting, weeding and watering flowers and vegetables. Along with that I would love to go for walks, hiking and swimming. I also like to visit new places, outdoor picnics and barbecues.

On a very hot day, I like to go to the beach with my loved ones. One day, I would like to go camping with my friends and family.

On the other hand, summer is a rainy and hot season in Nepal, so it is not a suitable season for outdoor activities or vacation. This season is the best for paddy planting in the fields. There is a special festival called Asar 15 (National Paddy Day), which is celebrated according to the Nepali calendar on Asar 15 (June 30). It marks the beginning of paddy plantation shortly after the arrival of the monsoon in the country. On this day, people plant rice saplings in the fields while singing traditional folk songs, splashing muddy water at each other and eat cultural food like selroti and beaten rice mix with yogurt and sugar.

I believe it’s clear why I enjoy summer in Canada. It’s dry, warm or even hot and we can do many outdoor activities unlike Nepal where summer is a wet season.
