My name is Damir. I am 50 years old. I am originally from the Russia, and I currently live in Canada. I work as a machine operator in Maple Leaf Foods company in Hamilton. I wish to improve my English because I want to get a better job. My motivation is self-development and education. My general goals are to get a well-paid job and get a good education in Canada. I would like to learn how to write and speak properly in all areas of life.

I was born in Moscow. My mother was an engineer. When I was one-and-half years old, my father left my family, so my Mom and I were alone. I am married. My wife worked as a doctor in Moscow hospital. In 2011 our daughter was born. We came to Canada as refugees at the end 2017. My wife works in a factory now, and my daughter, who is 10 years old, is a student in Grade 5.

I practise English at work by talking to my co-workers and reading technical instructions for the use of equipment. I am a type of learner that wants to learn fast and with high quality. I finished Moscow State University’s Civil Engineering Program. My specialisation is industrial— a “Construction of unique buildings and facilities, Construction of thermal and nuclear power plants”. I worked as a Quality Control Engineer in Moscow Subway, Tunnel Construction Service Department.

Canada became our second home. My family has big, ambitious plans. My family and I are looking for new growth opportunities in Canada. For example, my daughter knows two foreign languages, Russian and English. She tries to get the maximum knowledge at school, and studies diligently at home. She has a dream of becoming a pediatrician. My wife is also trying to get the highest score in English because she wants to join a program for optometrists.

For me, the top priority this year is to pass the English exam and get the highest possible grade for college entrance. It’ll give me new opportunities to find a good job. I know it’s not easy for me to learn English, but I try to give it my full attention.

Buying my own home is my most cherished dream, and I will pursue my dream step by step.

In conclusion, Canada has given my family great opportunities for build a new and happy life.
