Canada

motorcycle on road - rocky mountain in the distance

One of the best road trips that I have taken since I moved to Canada was going from Calgary to Golden, BC on a motorcycle. My husband and I planned to go to Golden to go white water rafting. We decided that he was going to drive straight through from Kenora to Calgary and I was going to take a flight in Winnipeg to Calgary and meet him there.

After visiting family in Calgary and getting everything ready for our adventure on the road, we left at 9am and took Highway 1A so that we could be off the beaten track. We drove through beautiful little towns like Cochrane and Exsha. We saw sailboats in a little lake named Ghost Lake, where we could see a dam. We were surprised by the amount of people that stopped in the popular hiking trail at Mount Yamnuska and at Grotto Canyon. We skipped Canmore, took Exit 91 and headed to the Trans-Canada Highway to go to BC.

After one hour driving pedal to the metal, my husband realized that we were running on fumes, so we had to do our first pit stop to fill the tank in Banff. The other pit stops we did were at the Spiral Tunnels and in a rest area at Yoho National Park. When we were in British Columbia, even though it was a little bit smoky, we were amazed at how beautiful the Rocky Mountains looked. The water of the lakes was also so stunning. As we were driving, we could see how they changed from blue to green, green to gray, and gray to white.

Finally, when we were almost at the end of our trip, we found a lot of construction on the Highway near Golden and a lot of Sunday drivers. But there is always a bright side and that was when we could finally see the Rocky Mountains from the balcony of our room at the Kicking Horse Mountain Resort in Golden. We were relaxed and thought about how fortunate we were and how beautiful Canada's landscape is.
