Canada

street in switzerland - flag hanging

I would like to share my experience and compare Switzerland and Canada. I will talk first about the pros and cons of living in Switzerland versus in Canada.

I was living in Switzerland for 13 years. I have to admit that this country has an amazing natural where you can enjoy jogging everyday due to the sceneries and panoramic views of the mountains. Besides, we shouldn’t forget the amazing transportation network which is really very precise, clean and covering all over the country as well. They have a great health care system. It’s enough to know that most of researches and famous pharmaceutical companies are in Basel Swiss; in other words, you can say that you’re in safe hands. Last but not least, punctuation is a lifestyle in terms of appointments, work, transportations and daily commitments.

We have talked about the pros so let’s talk now about the cons. Switzerland is not an immigration country. Swiss people are very conservative. On the political side it has a party just to vote to kick out immigrants and refugees; therefore, you can enjoy Switzerland as a tourist. However, as a resident, unfortunately, you will keep suffering from discrimination. In terms of settlement, it is very hard to find someone helping you to know your rights and how to start your professional career. I believe to find a good job is really hard, as a matter of fact if the employer has failed to find a Swiss to obtain the job, then he might think to hire an immigrant. However, with less wage than the Swiss despite both having the same profile and qualifications!

I moved to Canada six months ago. Although I am a newcomer however, I have found the contrary in Canada since day one. It’s an immigration country. Maybe neither the punctuation nor the health care system is the best; however, I have found other amazing aspects in terms of welcoming people. You can’t feel alienated. I have found everything I was looking for, such as programs for settlement, employment, communities and the government itself helping newcomers with low income. People in Canada are charming, warm feelings and helpful. In my opinion, it’s enough to think that people won’t be judged by their color, race or region. In addition, Canada does care about people mental health in the pandemic and lockdown trying to compensate people with different support programs.

Eventually, it’s my point of view and I would like to continue my life here in Canada. I could not feel its cons due to its pros which are very vital and essential in my daily life and future.
