Winter 2015

Canada

walking on a snowy trail

It was a cold winter day, March 2018 when I landed in Canada for the first time. I had mixed feelings, sadness for leaving all my memories and my relatives and happy feelings for this new start hoping for a stable and better life in Canada, “The Land of Opportunities”. A few days after my arrival, my journey with documents began. For instance, I had to apply for a driving license, SIN number, and open my bank account. This part of the journey is not so fun, but what kept me going was the excitement of exploring the different destinations in Canada. I visited Niagara Falls, the CN tower, and many parks. After visiting so many parks and doing day trips with my family, I realized that Canadians love to spend their weekends outdoors. Lots of happy people in the parks I visited.

This year was also the first time I saw snow, how it was amazingly shiny like crystal at night. I decided to study English as well and registered for an English course, started to see the lives of others around me and reflected on my own experience, especially since Canada is known for its diversity, unique culture. Also, I saw the Canadians are so lovely, kind and help each other to get ahead in life. Finally, Canada is a great country and I'm sure I will be proud when I become a Canadian citizen just as I am proud that I am Egyptian.
