Driving

road test - giving thumbs up

I believe that when you are a newcomer, you can share a lot of funny stories that you have faced. From my perspective, I have some that I won´t be able to forget. I would like to describe one of them that I consider as a challenge too. I am talking about getting my driver's license in Canada. Just imagine, after having lived in Cuba for a long time and never having touched a steering wheel, I arrived in Canada in January 2017, and six months after, I took my G1 test, and the journey started. I started practicing with a friend by using his car, and I remember that one day while practicing, when I was adjusting the mirrors, I did not realize that the car had automatic buttons for the adjustment instead of doing it by hand. That event was right out of the blue for my friend. For me, it was a laugh. I practiced a little bit, but I did not see any improvement. For that reason, I just decided to enroll at a driving school, even with whopping fees at that time. I believe I just hit the nail on the head taking that course because I passed the exam at the first attempt. Nowadays, when I drive, I am very confident.

Last month, I got the full G licence at my first shot, and I was thrilled. On top of everything, to have a driver's licence here in Canada is a necessity. I will strongly recommend each newcomer make a plan to successfully get a driver's license.
