One of the most common problems in the world is being overweight and many issues would arise from this. What is overweight? It is defined with BMI (Body Mass Index). A BMI of 25 to 29.9 is considered overweight. If BMI is over 30, it falls within the obesity range. There are many problems resulting from being overweight. One of the side effects is metabolic diseases such as High blood pressure, Diabetes and Hyperlipidemia. The Second issues can be Osteoarthritis for example knee pain, spinal cord dysfunction and discopathy. Third problem is depression, which is especially important in life and wellbeing. Thus, being overweight has many side effects and problems.

Metabolic diseases are one of the side effects of being overweight. There could be many diseases that would result from metabolic disorders. Firstly, High blood pressure. For example, High blood pressure which is the main cause of stroke, myocardial infarction, and dementia. Secondly, Diabetes is another concomitant of being overweight. It is an irreversible illness but can be controllable. The third metabolic disorder would be hyperlipidemia which is controlled by lifestyle modification, weight loss and medications. So, metabolic disorders are one of the problems of being overweight and health issues.

Osteoarthritis would be another health that can arise from weight gain. First, Osteoarthritis leads to lumbar disc, knee pain and spinal cord dysfunction. It is a chronic disease characterized by the deterioration of cartilage in joints which results in bones rubbing together so that there can be limited movement in the joints, creating problems in walking that could be very painful. So, weight gain and osteoarthritis are two factors that exacerbate each other.

Also, weight gain is often connected to emotional health. People end up with many emotional problems. First, depression resulting especially in adolescent and young women as it decreases their self-confidence. For example, they cannot wear beautiful and suitable dresses. In addition, these individuals do not participate in parties and ceremonies. Thus, obesity is often associated with emotional problems, such as sadness and anxiety.

In conclusion, being overweight is calculated with an index named BMI. The issues mentioned above indicate the relation between metabolic disorders such as DM, HTN and HLP, osteoarthritis and depression with weight gain and obesity.
