Winter 2015

Seasonal

sun drawn in sand

When I came to Canada, I really knew almost nothing about Canadian customs. I used to believe that Canada was a cold country, with nice people but with not many opportunities to get fun. I was really surprised, when I arrived in September dressed in winter clothes, and saw people with summer clothes, enjoying the beach and a barbeque! In a few minutes all my stereotypes went out. Canadian summer is the most enjoyable season, there are many funny activities to do, even if you do not have too much money to spend.

Let us start with the outdoor activities. They are my favorites because you enjoy the nice weather, get connected with nature and you can do it alone or get together with family and friends. There are three activities that I enjoy the most: visiting national parks, going to the beach, and having a barbecue. National parks are extensive natural areas located around the cities, protected by law and available for everybody to spend a day hiking, biking, or just camping. It is easy to find one near you that fits your taste, just go to this link online, Welcome to Ontario Parks. My second amazing option is to go for a refreshing day at the beach. The lake is calm to have a swim or play in the water. Finally, if you don’t want to go far from home, all Canadians love barbecues at home, they are not formal events to meet people and share time with the whole family, cooking food outside like our ancestors with charcoal.

On the other hand, if you want to spend some more money there are summer unique activities, for example the concerts, the zoos are amazing, Niagara Falls activities, waterparks, Wonderland. All these activities will recharge your energy and make you forget that winter is coming.

In summary, Canada is not cold all the time, the summer is an amazing warm season that most Canadians use to have fun with outdoor activities, such as hiking, biking, camping, barbeque. Also, if you are a city guy and you don’t worry about spending a little more money there are other paid summer activities to enjoy the classical Ontario tourist guide, even if you already live here. Getting out from the stress and energizing your soul and body for the upcoming winter.
