hands up - volunteer text in sky

Volunteering is a great way to improve your English and meet new people while helping your community. A volunteer can do a lot of things, such as assisting centre staff with recreation programs, equipment cleaning and occasional special events. You can use this opportunity to practice workplace skills. I would prefer working with staff on programs to improve my administrative and social skills. I think this will help me in the workplace when I eventually start working.

There are two community centres near my neighborhood. One is Glen Abbey, the other is Oakville Trafalgar. We often go to Glen Abbey for community programs. I am familiar with this centre and would choose to volunteer there when possible as it’s close to my house.

Due to current Covid-19 restrictions there are no volunteer opportunities available at this time. I’m looking forward to restrictions being lifted so that I can apply to be a volunteer. Once it becomes possible, I will go to the website and complete the volunteer form. I might have to get a criminal background check from the local police office to show I don’t have a criminal past. I will wait until the volunteer coordinator tells me it’s needed. For now I will watch the website for updates. If you are interested in volunteering, this website will help get you started! https://www.ontario.ca/page/volunteering-ontario
