Winter 2015

Seasonal

Young couple sledding

I strongly believe that winter in Canada is different than my home country of Palestine because winter here has its own characteristics. Always, there are fascinating things to see and enjoyable activities to do. When the snow decorates Canada, plenty of outdoor activities become available to enjoy such as tobogganing, skating, skiing, and snowboarding. My family and I have experienced these beautiful things. For example, the first time we saw snow, my kids were very happy. They went outside the home and started playing in the snow. In the beginning, they made snowballs and the war was started between the fighters. After a while, they returned to peace and agreed to make a snowman. They cooperated making it. One of them made the body, and the older one made the head. Finally, the youngest child brought a long carrot and made the nose. Really, it was an amazing snowman.

Another exciting activity we experienced was tobogganing. In January and February, my children carried their sleds and went to a small snow-covered hill located beside us. At the outset, they faced difficulties in climbing the hill, and then they road their sleds and went down the hill. They had a great time and fun. It was a special experience; everyone should try it. Skating is a famous activity known in Canada. Near to us, every winter the municipality makes an iced area for skating and playing hockey. My children practiced it every winter. Each one of them has a pair of blades. They are professionals in skating. During skating, they feel full of energy and have fun.

On the other hand, it is known that Canadian winter nights are too long. There are many indoor activities that can be done. For instance, my family and I play PlayStation games or chess. Another useful activity is drawing and painting. Actually, my children like drawing the winter season. They always draw the rain and the snowfall. In the end, winter is distinguished with its special food. Especially the warming food that contains a lot of energy.
In the long run, you cannot judge the winter in Canada unless you live in it and try indoor and outdoor activities. Although Canada is frozen in winter, the winter is amazing. Remember, there is always an enjoyable thing to see and do.
