Health

Beautiful child smiling while sitting in the dentists chair. close-up.

My son is 13 and half years old and has very ugly crooked teeth. Every time he chews food, he bites the skin inside his cheeks. That's why I decided he would visit an orthodontic dentist and get braces.

After taking x-rays, the dentist explained in detail what the procedure is and what kind of braces my son should have.

My son's lower jawbone didn't have enough space for his teeth to grow. He said there were two options for making enough space in the lower jawbone. The first was to use headgear to move the teeth and make space, but this way was very difficult and uncomfortable to maintain. The second was to extract four of the lower teeth to make space. He recommended the second choice.

He also said the upper canine teeth were so small that they could be overlaid later.

Another problem was the wisdom teeth. The upper wisdom teeth were well located to extract, but the lower wisdom teeth were weirdly located and very close to the thick nerve, so it would be really hard to extract them later. The lower wisdom teeth were growing by pushing their molars to the right side.

The orthodontist told me that my son is still growing, and nobody knows how his face will mature later.

I think having braces takes patience, and you need to have enough time to spare. Now my son is happy to imagine himself after his braces.
