Ingredients

  • 1 kg small chicken cut into small pieces
  • 4 cups or ½ kg rice (white rice)
  • 1 cup of plain yogurt
  • 1 lemon
  • 1 tbsp garlic paste
  • 1 tbsp ginger paste
  • 2 tsp chopped mint leaves
  • 2 medium tomatoes
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1tsp red chili
  • 1 tsp turmeric
  • 1 packet biryani masala flavoring
  • 2 medium chopped onions
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 6-8 drops yellow food colour

    Preparation

  1. Add 1/2 cup of vegetable oil to your pot and then add chopped onions. Fry onions until they become golden and then add the chicken, garlic and ginger. Fry again until all ingredients become brown in color. Add tomato paste and all the spices. Then add a cup of yogurt and fry a little more. Add 1 teaspoon mint leaves and 1 lemon.

  2. Use a separate pot and add 4 cups of water and 1/2 tsp of salt. Make sure the rice tastes a little salty. Boil rice until cooked and carefully drain water so the rice doesn’t break.

  3. Layer all the drained rice over the cooked chicken. Garnish the dish with mint and a few drops of yellow food colouring. Make sure to serve chicken biryani in layers with the top and bottom being layers of rice. Serve with raita (plain yogurt).
