Here is some vocabulary from this edition. Do you know what the words mean?

aromatic
having a strong pleasant smell

authentic
done or made in the traditional or original way

bonfire
a large outdoor fire, either for burning waste or for a party

breeder
someone who breeds animals or plants as a job

canteen
a place in a factory, school etc where meals are provided, usually quite cheaply

carousel
a machine with wooden horses on it that turns around and around, which people can ride on for fun

chaff
the outer seed covers that are separated from grain before it is used as food

channel
an area of water that connects two larger areas of water

colonial
relating to a country that controls and rules other countries, usually ones that are far away

commiserate
to express your sympathy for someone who is unhappy about something

commune
to converse or talk together, usually with profound intensity, intimacy, etc.; interchange thoughts or feelings

cranky
bad-tempered

craving
an extremely strong desire for something

culinary
relating to cooking

edible
fit to be eaten as food

enormous
very big in size or in amount

equinox
one of the two times in a year when night and day are of equal length:

era
a period of time in history that is known for a particular event, or for particular qualities

etiquette
the formal rules for polite behaviour in society or in a particular group

flora
all the plants that grow in a particular place or country

gastronomy
the art and science of cooking and eating good food

hammock
a large piece of cloth that is hung between two trees or posts so that you can sleep in it

hobby
an activity that you enjoy doing in your free time

imperative
extremely important and needing to be done or dealt with immediately

incognito
having one's identity concealed especially to avoid notice or attention

lure
an object used to attract animals or fish so that they can be caught

luxurious
very expensive, beautiful, and comfortable

malevolent
evil; harmful; injurious

melodious
sweet-sounding

metaphor
a way of describing something by referring to something different to show that it has similar qualities

nimble
able to move quickly and easily with light neat movements

nostalgia
the activity of remembering a good time in the past and wishing that things had not changed

nutritionist
someone who has a special knowledge of nutrition

pagan
a member of a religious, spiritual, or cultural community based on the worship of nature or the earth

perseverance
determination to keep trying to achieve something in spite of difficulties

phishing
the criminal activity of sending emails or having a website that is intended to trick someone into giving away information

picturesque
visually charming as if resembling or suitable for a painting

prioritized
to deal with one thing first, because it is the most important

quarrel
to have an argument

recuperation
to get better again after an illness or injury

reed
a type of tall plant like grass that grows in wet places

reel
to be confused or shocked by a situation

reluctant
slow and unwilling

rickshaw
a small vehicle used in South East Asia for carrying one or two passengers. It is pulled by someone walking or riding a bicycle

sacred
very important or greatly respected

splinter
a small sharp piece of wood, glass, or metal, that has broken off a larger piece

strict
expecting people to obey rules or to do what you say

stye
an infected place on the edge of your eyelid, which becomes red and swollen

suburb
an area where people live which is away from the centre of a town or city

tactful
not likely to upset or embarrass other people

talisman
an object that is believed to have magic powers to protect the person who owns it

urban
relating to towns and cities

ventilate
to let fresh air into a room, building etc

viciousness
unpleasantly severe: spiteful
