acerbic
clever but in a cruel way

coincide
to happen at the same time as something else, especially by chance

cosmopolitan
a place that has people from many different parts of the world

feast
a large meal where a lot of people celebrate a special occasion

horrific
extremely bad, in a way that is frightening or upsetting

indulge
to let yourself do or have something that you enjoy, especially something that is considered bad for you

insecure
not feeling at all confident about yourself, your abilities, or your relationships with people

loot
to steal things, especially from shops or homes that have been damaged in a war or riot

lurking
lingering and persistent

Newlywed
a person who has recently married

ponder
to spend time thinking carefully and seriously about a problem, a difficult question, or something that has happened

premarital
happening or existing before marriage

reusable
able to be used more than once

stout
heavy, or having a thick body

traction
the force that prevents something such as a wheel sliding on a surface
